New Rail splice concept - Heat kink reduction: We may introduce this new concept for the all welded Rail and this as per each 1/4 mile increments of tangent rail. We can now incorporate a solution due to the thermal expansion as per temperature change. Please note the long traverse diagonal "long" slip joint splice, this splice will commence over several Rail Ties. This splicing lay-out would be designed as to the prevailing direction in the normal instance of a two way [two track] system. With other words, we will construct the rail splice so as to allow the oncoming traffic to run from the full rail head to the point of the splice. In this case the inner wheel baring face or close to the wheel flange will be the full baring point between the rail and wheel and then gradually change over to the next rail section. The load baring percentage will now incrementally change from the inner side of the wheel, rail contact. At no time will the rail experience the [end to end void] such as in the old rail splice configuration. If we use the shunt system for the train blocking, then we still need to install the appropriate jumpers. This will create an open to a closed splicing depending on ambient temperature, however the splice will never encounter the 90-degree cross opening as in the regular none welded system, (large gap in the rail splice at the cold condition and small gap in the hot condition.) This new system will prevent the hammering as in the 90-degree sections since a Rail wheel will pass each diagonal with a continuous wheel-bearing feature. The result is the achievements of thermal coefficient expansion changes with out of rail buckling, reduction of Rail-end deteriorations and reductions of wheel damage. This should also solve the problems of Rail pull-apart and perhaps rail brakeage due to high tension under cold conditions as well as other Rail and tie problems in the very hot state, especially in tangent sections. One additional benefit is the likely reduction of emergency maintenance work and therefore increasing the road availability for the all-important speedy revenue operations. The required special designed Tie plates are not shown as of now.
